2009 HIIC Aloha United Way Charity Cruise

Speedhawaii features a cruise for a cause! The Hawaii Island Impreza Club hosts a charity cruise for the Aloha United Way!

I was honored to attend and help out HIIC (Hawaii Islands Impreza Club) with their 2009 AUW event, which was held this past Saturday (9/19/2009). The cruise took our Subaru’s from Central Oahu Regional Park, to Servco Subaru, to Windward Mall for lunch, to Chinaman’s Hat for some photo ops, finally ending in Haleiwa for some shave ice! As a requirement for participating in this cruise, each person participating was asked to make a small contribution to the Aloha United Way. However, with their contribution each attendee was entitled to win some awesome giveaways provided by generous sponsors. Some of these included car-parts from Kartboy, Dyno-Pulls at Rads Motorsport, and MySubie.com T-Shirts autographed by pro-rally driver Travis Pastrana! Also, 6 cars entered in a Shown n Shine event, the winner being decided by popular vote (UK-300 won BTW). All in all, a great day packed with friends, prizes, and fun! And, I’ve been told HIIC raised over $1500 dollars for the AUW this year! The community at large generally has a negative view of the car enthusiast community, but we in HIIC try to change that with events like this, and hope that other car clubs/communities follow suit.

A mahalo must be sent out to all the title sponsors for their generous prize donations, and of course to all the participants that made a contribution to AUW. And an extra BIG Mahalo must be sent out to Ted Calvero and Walter Rivera for getting all the sponsors, as well as organizing the event. Without them, none of this would have happened.
